I begin every custom motorcycle seat with a careful evaluation of the seat pan supplied by the customer. If necessary, I reinforce or modify the pan before I start leatherwork. My experience with metal fabrication and fiberglass allows me to do any pan modifications required in-house.
I select and shape foam for each seat based on the rider’s preferences and the motorcycle’s stance and profile. This approach ensures comfort, durability, and style. I never use chopped scrap foam like the material found in low-grade carpet padding.
For upholstered seats, I use premium leather engineered for motorcycle applications. I stitch intricate patterns, panel seams, and structural details by hand or with industrial machines using heavy-duty, UV-resistant polyester thread. I shape each seat carefully to maintain clean lines and balanced proportions.
My hand-tooled seats feature carved and dyed tops, finished edges, and hand-laced or hand-sewn construction. Every tooled seat requires extensive carving, shaping, and finish work to meet customer tastes and my own professional standards. These steps take time, and cannot be rushed.
Prices for motorcycle seats vary by design, complexity, time, and materials. These are the starting points for custom commissions:
• Upholstered leather seats start at $500
• Hand-tooled seats start at $1,200, and increase depending on size, design complexity, clarity of customer input, and other variables
Lead times vary. After an initial consultation, I can provide a more accurate estimate for your finished product.
